Parents spend thousands of dollars over their children’s lives buying them toys to keep them occupied and amused, but it is also important to remember that toys do have educational value as well.

family This website is aimed at helping parents select the best toys to help with their child’s development as they grow, while not taking away any of the pleasure and excitement that a child enjoys when they receive a new toy.

The most important thing to remember when purchasing Toys for your child is to make sure that they are safe and suitable for the age group that they are being purchased for – these details are usually included in the ad or on the packaging.

This does not mean for one moment that you should not buy toys that are for older children if your child is looking for challenges… just that you need to check the safety of each toy before handing it over for them to play with.

Particularly check toys for smaller children and be aware of parts that can come loose and cause choking (mainly applies to ALL children under 3, but can still be a hazard for older ones).

If after you have purchased a toy and you don’t feel that it is safe, no matter what the recommendations, return it to the place of purchase and ask for a refund. Your child’s safety has to be your first priority.

Also important when resourcing toys for your child is to find those that allow for others to join in. This teaches your child to share and developed great social skills which will stay with them for life.

Personally I feel that at all stage of your child’s development they should be introduced to Stories and Books. Although in their earlier years you will have to put aside time to read to them, this gives all parents valuable one on one time with their child and creates a closer bond.

reading As your child grows and they learn to read for themselves, this is one pasttime that they should be encouraged to continue by getting them to read to you. Being able to read helps to give them a greater understand of their language and what words mean, eventually helping them fit into the classroom easier and follow lessons with ease.

Much later in life, the time you invest while they are growing up encouraging them to read will enhance their ability to understand legal and other important documents that they will have to deal with.

They are only children for a short time and to make unforgettable memories you need to share their playtimes with them. My fondest memories as a child are of games played with my family which we did regularly and I will always treasure.

Always try each Christmas to buy your child at least one toy that encourages outdoor activity and if possible something that the whole family can enjoy at the same time no matter what their ages. PS that includes Mum and Dad also Grandma and Grandad

Remember you are never too old to enjoy playing with your family. Now I know this probably sounds funny to some of you but whenever we have a chance to get together with our children, we always set aside a games night!

It is very relaxing and good for a laugh. We always play games with the grandchildren until bed time and then it is the adults turn.

So next time you visit with your family turn off the television and computer, and enjoy some good old fashioned fun!
